WCB FAQ

Q: How do I join?

A: Just grab your horn and show up!  It's that simple.  We encourage anyone interested in music to join us.  We welcome band members with any level of experience.

Q: Where do you practice?

A: During the Appalachian State University school year we meet @ 7:30 PM in Room 119 (the Spencer Rehearsal Hall) in the Broyhill Music Center on the campus of Appalachian State University.  During the summer months our practice locations may change so check the Calendar for locations and times.

NOTE: When the ASU Repertoire Orchestra is not meeting in Room 119 during the school year as well as for Summer Band we will meet @ 7:00 PM.  Please check our Facebook page or e-mail for schedule changes.  Also, please make sure your e-mail is registered with Steve Frank so any changes can be sent to you as soon as we know about them.

Q: Is there a fee to participate?

A: Currently, unlike many community bands, the WCB does not have a fee to participate.  We raise money during the summer months by playing for local businesses, camp grounds, and other events to fund our organization.  Donations, however, are always welcome and may be tax deductible* as we are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Q: Do I need my own instrument to participate?

A: Generally speaking, yes, you will need your own instrument.  The main exception is percussion, though if you play percussion you'll probably want to own some of your own general sticks.  In some special circumstances we may be able to help you find an instrument to play.  If you are an ASU student and take Community Band for credit you may also be able to check out an instrument from the Hayes School of Music, pending availability.
